Webtools has launched health tech start-up Centrik, a cloud-based platform that delivers a seamless end-to-end experience for consumers and providers in the health sector.

Webtools, founded in Christchurch in 2018, works with innovators and entrepreneurs to develop and scale digital products across a range of sectors in NZ and Australia and has led the way in delivering modern health tech solutions.

Webtools has spun out the new health tech start-up after attracting external private equity, taking the total seed funding to $1.75m. Centrik will continue to be backed and managed by the Webtools team and founders, Brett O’Donnell and Harry Hawke.

“Our clients have been extremely excited by what we have achieved over this past 12 months and the roadmap we have committed to” says Webtools chief executive Harry Hawke.

“This extra seed funding really helps us accelerate this roadmap to ultimately deliver a new breed of digital health technology, not seen before in NZ”.

The new Centrik platform enables both healthcare service and technology providers to configure and deploy secure and scalable mobile and web-based solutions within minutes.

Consumer-centric modules are the most recent additions to the platform and have been designed to align to Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand’s objectives of the key digital initiative ‘Hira’ (formerly the National Health Information Platform).

“Everyone in the ecosystem wants to see better tools and ways for consumers to access and share their data in secure and equitable ways,” Hawke says.

“Our technical team have been architecting our platform to deliver tangible ways to achieve this today for private healthcare providers, whilst future proofing the platform to ensure we enable any healthcare provider can be part of an interoperable patient-centred ecosystem”.

Webtools has been part of Medtech Global’s ALEX® (Application Layer EXchange) Partnership Programme since inception, both assisting with the development of the platform and delivering the first production app using the ALEX® platform, called Heartbeat.

Centrik is underpinned by international healthcare standard, FHIR, and comes with out-of-the-box ALEX integration, which gives the platform the ability to integrate with the large majority of general practice sites with minimal development effort or implementation costs. Christchurch’s Better Health Group is creating a fully digital seamless patient experience  using the consumer modules of the Centrik platform, which will go-live across the group, covering 70,000 enrolled patients.

Group director David Jones says, “we have been searching for best of breed technology to complement and augment the services we offer to patients, and we are extremely excited by what the Centrik & ALEX technology collaboration has delivered in such a short period of time”.
